On The impending New year...

2019 is well on it's way, and with every happy new year comes the barrage of New Years Resolution pressure.

It seems to be the norm to create boring arbitrary non-specific goals like: lose weight (ugh), save money, declutter, start running (again), apply for jobs, just because, well, 'tis the season!

I'm not here for it.
What I am here for, however, is to see you create goals that align with who YOU are, and what YOU desire in this life.
Goals that light you up instead of drag you down.
Goals that are FUN to pursue, where the journey is as wonderful as the destination.
Goals where you can learn, and grow, and flourish in more than just one direction.

If you would like to explore what it would feel like to begin this new year with fully committed, connected, and enlivening support around making the changes to create the lifestyle you've always wanted to create for yourself, to learn the mindsets, structures, tools and rituals necessary to make living your MOST desired life a journey that feels inspired and indulgent, with a sense of EASE, and FUN...

Let's schedule a time to talk, and see how we can work together to
MAKE.
IT.
HAPPEN.

My Go-to "I-never-get-sick-but-when-i-do-i-make-this-Soup" Soup

"I never get sick."

Is probably one of the most frequent lies I tell myself as an adult (along with "diet starts tomorrow" and "I'm never drinking again").
By day, I am the office manager of a very busy and very germ-y elementary school, and people big and small tend to drop like flies at various times throughout the year.

Be it Strep Throat, Pinkeye, Flu, Barfnado...something is always going around. I am likely jinxing myself by typing this, but so far this year, and ALL of last year, I've been able to avoid ALL OF IT!
Now, to be honest I've had whispers of malaise here and there, but I activate super defense mode on all fronts, and have so far been successful at keeping the sick at bay*.

When I feel a little rough or a creeping ill coming on, I utilize the following remedies to make sure I don't fall along with my comrades:
  1. Oregano Oil - Diluted in a shot glass of water. Tastes like watery pizza, but it does the trick. I just pick up a bottle at the Co-op or Whole Foods
  2. Pharmaceutical Grade Supplements - One product in particular, called Proflavanol C is something I take regularly, then amp it up when I'm feeling run down, or already sick. I'm convinced that this formulation of Vitamin C, Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc, and Grapeseed cuts my sick time in half.
  3. Sleep - I have a theory that we fall ill when we are moving too fast and hectically through life, and that stress helps to lower our immunity, so we become more susceptible to illness. But, I also think that getting a cold or feeling run-down is our bodies telling us that it's time to SLOW DOWN and take care of ourselves.
  4. Water - You knew this already. Chug-a-lug my friend
  5. Liver Tincture from Cutting Root
  6. Essential Oil Steam - I will shake a few drops of eucalyptus and tea tree oil in the shower in the morning to help my sinuses and airways feel clearer and better. Peppermint is amazing for headaches as well.
  7. Movement - Low key walks in my super cute neighborhood, or through Frick Park with the pup to help move that lymph!
  8. Soup! - See below

Here is the recipe for my Go-To-Never-Get-Sick-But-When-I-Do-I-Make-This-Soup soup:

Coconut Oil
Sesame Oil
Cayenne Pepper or Hot Chili Oil
Yellow Miso
Kombu
Bonito
Wakame
Shitake mushrooms - Fresh or Dried, but you get bonus brothiness if reconstituted from dried
Garlic - All of it
Celery
Onion
Scallions

Bonus veggies as craved - Your body knows what it needs:
Kale
Carrots
Potatoes
Sweet Potatoes
Potatoes
Beans
Zucchini
Tofu

Soak the Bonito and Kombu in a pot of water heated to low, for about 30 minutes, then strain out the solids. At the same time, rehydrate your mushrooms in a separate bowl or pot (I use a tea kettle to speed the process along with hot water).

Combine the bonito broth with the mushrooms and broth in a large stock pot.

In a frying pan heat up some coconut oil, then saute your celery, onion, and garlic.
Combine everything in the stock pot and simmer on medium low. Take out a portion of the hot water and carefully wisk in about a tablespoon of miso, then add back to the soup, taking care not to boil.
Add your wakame and your bonus veggies and simmer until everything is cooked.
Serve hot, topped with sesame oil, scallions, and cayenne pepper/chili oil to taste.

Trader Joe's Everything but the Bagel Seasoning is Phenomenal in this!

Join us in the first of a 4 part workshop series in 2017!

New Year’s Day will have come and gone...

Maybe you journaled some resolutions. Perhaps you’re freaked out because you feel like you should have, but didn’t, and now 2017 is just going to be like any other year. Maybe the whole thing leaves you feeling overwhelmed and disenchanted, but you know you still want this year to be different.

We begin by taking inventory of our current state, decoding our desires, simplifying the noise, and honing in on our body’s own wisdom to gain a clear, specific, and uplifting picture of what we want the experience of our lives to be. Rooting into our intentions in preparation for massive growth and evolution.

It's SO much easier to get where you're going if you can clearly visualize the destination. So, we root down and seal our intentions into a physical form. We get our hands dirty by creating a visual representation of your beautiful life in the form of a Visioning Luminaria. Place a candle in the center, light up your intention, and let your future glow.

Cold Hands, Warm Hearth Winter Lifestyle Nourishment: A Challenge

Greetings Well-Beings!

I don't know about you, but as I walk through my years on in this life, the Winters feel longer, more harsh, and more difficult to get through. Every year, I wish for the crocuses to pop up, the smell of dirt to return, and the salt to be on the rim of my margarita, instead of
on my boots.

I once read an article by the brilliant life coach Martha Beck about "Having a February", which, as I've interpreted, is basically having a month long Monday.
I don't know if it's Seasonal Affective Disorder, the lack of fresh air from staying out of the cold weather, or the post holiday blues combined with the pre-spring apprehension, but what I do know, is that now is the perfect time to create small but powerful shifts in your day-to-day focus.
Shifts that will enhance your quality of life, making this typically challenging time, feel joyful, healthy and serene.

Sylvia Plath once wrote:
“If neurotic is wanting two mutually exclusive things at one and the same time, then I'm neurotic as hell. I'll be flying back and forth between one mutually exclusive thing and another for the rest of my days.”

I feel this is a fitting sentiment, because as eager as I always am to get winter over and done with, I equally love digging my heels in, engaging and indulging in the warm and grounding vibe this season gives us.
I love having a reason to throw on a gigantic sweater, make a comforting beverage, and allow some things lie dormant, even if just for a while.

Enter:
Cold Hands, Warm Hearth
Winter Lifestyle Nourishment Instagram Challenge

Why Cold Hands Warm Hearth?
The hearth has long been the symbol of the heart of the home, where nourishment of the body and soul come together. When I think if hearth, I think of love, warmth, good cozy food, a toasty fire, hot delicious beverages, the comfort of family, and close friends. The hearth is the spatial host for winter bliss. It is the spirit of The Hearth that I hope to awaken, in order to joyfully close out the remainder of this month feeling integrated and ready to greet the spring feeling rested, taken care of, and nourished in your body and soul.

That's why I've created this challenge, so for 15 days, we can nourish our souls, and nurture the summer that lives inside all of us.
Taking the time to engage in these pleasures in the depths of this season, to focus on the sensuousness and grounding we can experience in our bodies and souls.

BONUS!
THERE WILL BE PRIZES

Play: Part Un

I have a pretty large family.
Any given celebration consists of at least 20 humans, 3 dogs, 3 cats, the occasional water dragon, and the bunny before he went tits-up. As you can likely relate, navigating all of those personalities, interpersonal conflicts, and lifestyles, ain't easy.

Although my family tends to get along unusually well, I always feel like I need a bit of extra guidance and mental preparation before being fed to those very loving and well-intentioned sharks.
I usually do this by listening to an inspiring book or podcast during the drive home, being reminded of the kind of person I want to be, and reminding myself not to be so easily triggered.
Or, if I do get triggered, it gives me the perspective to help me understand why, and how to manage it.
This works exceedingly well...most of the time.

Due to feeling pretty tender throughout most of this month, I felt the need for an add on to my inspiration immersion. This is where the Oracle cards come into play. I love them because they give you a quick and dirty concept to consider in relation to your current quandry. There are a number of wonderful decks out there, but my current favorite is Doreen Virtue's Daily Guidance from your Angels.
I love using these cards whenever I feel a little spacey, in need of direction, or am in search of a loving nudge.
There are many ways of using these cards, but what I personally do is shuffle the cards and ask a question.

"What to I need to know/keep in mind for going home this Thanksgiving?"
:::shuffle shuffle shuffle:::
Sometimes one will literally fall out of the deck at my feet. Other times, I fan them out and let the wand choose the wizard.
:::shuffle shuffle shuffle:::

PLAY
"Beloved one, it's time to set aside work for a while. Don't worry: we will oversee your responsibilities to their completion. Playfulness, gaiety, and laughter will lift your energy so that you'll return to work with a renewed perspective and heightened energy."
The angels see that you need to play, so they sent you this card. You've been working and worrying a lot lately, and your soul cries out for fun. Feelings of fatigue, irritability, or depression are additional signs that you're overdue for some playtime. You don't need to wait until you have a free moment, because you can inject fun into your day today. Simple pleasures, moments of silliness, laughing with a friend, or watching a funny movie are examples of ways to have fun that don't require a lot of time or money. Fun and play are necessary parts of life for children and adults. These types of activities help us live healthier lives, and allow us to attain our desires more quickly. Fun is part of living a balanced life.

Additional meanings:
Stop what you're doing, and go have fun right now.
Release any guilt about having fun to the angels.
You deserve happiness, pleasure and enjoyment.
Make sure that your recreational activities are purely fun and noncompetitive.

It wasn't until Black Friday that I realized that this concept was something I had embodied, almost by accident! Although I had considered the meaning of the card, I quickly filed it away in my brain.
I realized that I spent most of Thanksgiving Day playing Hide & Seek with my little cousins, watching my mother make a Limber Louie puppet dance for the dogs, and learning some new party tricks from my uncle.
It was so fun to be able to show my cousins all the hiding spots my brother and I found when we were kids, and even discover some new ones they found on their own.
Experiencing the gathering through the lens of "Play" gave me permission to not take myself and others so seriously. (Like when Nana threatens to remove your new nose piercing with needle nose pliers while you sleep!)
(TRUE STORY)

I was able to have a really fantastic time, not get into any awkward disagreements, and really engage with my family on a new level. As a result
This is far from the first time I've picked this card lately, so I'm going to try to let go of the serious, and play, as much as I possibly can. What do you think? Play as a part of your wellness practice?
I invite you to take the Angel's advice, stop what you're doing and PLAY!

Please share in the comments, what are your most favorite and silly ways to play?
